Duke athletic director Kevin White has one son, Florida's Mike White, coaching in the NCAA Tournament and another son, Danny White, who is AD of Central Florida, which is still alive in the NIT.

NEW YORK _ Duke athletic director Kevin White is still plenty invested in college basketball's postseason.

White is in New York to watch his son, Mike White, coach Florida in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden. The fourth-seeded Gators face No. 8 seed Wisconsin on Friday night.

Is Kevin White a Doug Collins-type dad? The former NBA coach often looked like a stressed-out wreck watching his son, Chris Collins, coach Northwestern this season.

"We are very emotionally involved in the activities of all our kids," Kevin White said. "Mike's run of late has been very exciting for our family."

Kevin White's school could have been here in New York, too. Duke was the 2 seed in the East Region, but was upset by South Carolina in the second round. South Carolina plays Baylor in Friday's first game of the regional semifinals.

White is on the NCAA tournament selection committee, but he must recuse himself from any discussion and decisions about Duke and Florida. So he had nothing to do with creating a possible rematch between the Blue Devils and Gators at Madison Square Garden _ Duke beat Florida at MSG in December _ in the East regional final.

It was not something White was thrilled to see when the bracket was finalized.

"When I kind of arrived at that place I'd be a liar not to say (I thought), 'Oh my God' as I took notice," White said. Still, it did not dampen the celebration of Mike White's first NCAA Tournament appearances as a coach.

"To be honesty we weren't that consumed with any potential matchup challenge," Kevin White said. "We were more emtionally in a magical-moment place."

White was supposed to return to Duke in Durham, North Carolina, after watching Mike's Gators, but he was toying with the idea of changing his travel plans. There is another game at the Garden next week in which he has a rooting interest.

His son, Danny White, is the athletic director at Central Florida, which will be playing in the NIT semifinals on Tuesday at the Garden.

UCF is coached by Johnny Dawkins, a former Duke star and Stanford coach who White has gotten to know well and admire.

"All of these things converging in New York at this particular meoment in time is almost surreal for me," White said. "It's very cool."
