Considering South Carolina reached the Final Four last season, the Gamecocks sure aren’t getting much respect thus far.
A preseason poll conducted by Southeastern Conference and national media had South Carolina finishing just 11th out of 14 teams in the SEC. The Gamecocks lost three of their top four scorers from their Final Four squad, including SEC player of the year Sindarius Thornwell.
South Carolina coach Frank Martin said he doesn’t pay attention to where the media picks his team to finish, though he was quick to point out that the media failed to make Thornwell a first-team or second-team preseason all-SEC selection last year.
Martin also cited the SEC’s improved depth and quipped that “I might be happy if we’re 11th because the league is so good.”
